We believe privacy is a right, not a feature. Here's exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe.

Overview

MahiyaVe ("we", "our", or "us") operates the MahiyaVe mobile application available on Android. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app.

By using MahiyaVe, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

💡

Short version: We collect only what's necessary to run the matrimonial platform and wedding planning features. We never sell your personal data to third parties.

Data We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated automatically when you use the app.

Information you provide:

  • Account info: Phone number, name, date of birth, gender, email address (if provided via Google Sign-In)
  • Profile info: Height, religion, caste/gotra, mother tongue, education, occupation, annual income, work location, hometown, family type, lifestyle habits (diet, smoking, drinking), hobbies
  • Profile photos: Up to 4 photos you upload, including a main profile photo
  • Biodata: PDF biodata you optionally upload
  • Partner preferences: Age range, height, religion, education, income, location, dowry-free preference
  • Family details: Parents' occupations, siblings, up to 5 family member contacts (only if you voluntarily add them)
  • Kundli / horoscope: Birth time, birth city, Manglik status (optional)
  • Chat messages: Messages you send to matches within the app
  • Wedding planning data: Venue preferences, budget, shortlisted vendors, bookings via the W-Commerce module

Information collected automatically:

  • Location: Approximate city/region (used to show nearby matches and active users in your city). Precise GPS is requested only for relevant features.
  • Device info: Device model, OS version, unique device identifiers
  • Usage data: Features used, screens visited, time spent, interactions (likes, requests, profile views) — collected via Firebase Analytics
  • Push notification token: For sending match alerts and reminders via Firebase Cloud Messaging
📍 Location City-level only. Used for match discovery and "active in your city" insights.
📸 Photos Stored securely on Firebase Storage. Only visible to other logged-in users.
💬 Messages Stored in Firestore and visible only to the two people in a conversation.
📊 Analytics Aggregated, anonymised usage data to improve app performance and features.

How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and profile
  • Calculate and display compatibility match percentages
  • Show your profile to other users based on mutual preference filters
  • Enable real-time chat between matched users
  • Generate AI-powered profile bios (text is processed server-side and not stored beyond generation)
  • Power the W-Commerce wedding planning module — venue discovery, photographer browsing, AI planner "Mahi"
  • Send push notifications for new matches, likes, messages, and reminders
  • Display insights like "Active in your city" and "New today" counts
  • Improve app features and fix bugs using aggregated analytics
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data for targeted advertising to third parties.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only in these limited circumstances:

  • Other users: Your profile information and photos are visible to other registered MahiyaVe users in accordance with your privacy settings. Phone numbers are partially hidden by default and fully revealed only when you consent.
  • Wedding vendors: If you book or enquire about a vendor through W-Commerce, relevant contact details are shared with that vendor to fulfil your booking.
  • Service providers: Firebase (Google) processes data on our behalf — see Section 5.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users.
  • Business transfer: In the event of a merger or acquisition, user data may be transferred. We will notify users before this occurs.

Firebase & Third-Party Services

MahiyaVe is built on Google Firebase. The following Firebase services process your data:

🔐 Firebase Auth Handles phone number OTP and Google Sign-In authentication.
🗄️ Cloud Firestore Stores profile data, preferences, messages, and wedding planning data.
🖼️ Firebase Storage Stores profile photos and uploaded biodata PDFs securely.
📊 Firebase Analytics Collects anonymised usage events to improve features.
🔔 Firebase Messaging Delivers push notifications for matches and messages.
📍 Google Play Location Used to fetch approximate device location for match discovery.

Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by Firebase: policies.google.com/privacy

We also use Google Play Services for authentication and location. No other third-party advertising SDKs are embedded in the app.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, which is hosted in secure data centres. Firebase enforces industry-standard security including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.

We implement Firestore Security Rules to ensure users can only access their own data and the profiles of other users in accordance with app logic. Profile photos are stored with access controls and are not publicly indexable.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password for your Google account and keep your phone secure.

Data retention: We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, photos, and messages are permanently deleted within 30 days.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information directly from your profile settings in the app
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data from the app's Profile section, or by contacting us
  • Data portability: Request an export of your data in a readable format
  • Opt-out of notifications: Disable push notifications at any time from your device settings
  • Withdraw consent: You may revoke location access from your device settings at any time
  • Visibility control: Control which parts of your profile (phone number, family contacts) are visible to other users

Children's Privacy

MahiyaVe is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately deactivate their account and delete their data.

If you believe a minor has registered on our platform, please notify us at support.mahiyave.com@gmail.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make significant changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Send a push notification to all active users
  • Show an in-app prompt asking you to review and acknowledge the updated policy

Continued use of MahiyaVe after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
