Overview

MahiyaVe ("we", "our", or "us") operates the MahiyaVe mobile application available on Android. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app.

By using MahiyaVe, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

Data We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated automatically when you use the app.

Information you provide:

• Account info: Phone number, name, date of birth, gender, email address (if provided via Google Sign-In)
• Profile info: Height, religion, caste/gotra, mother tongue, education, occupation, annual income, work location, hometown, family type, lifestyle habits (diet, smoking, drinking), hobbies
• Profile photos: Up to 4 photos you upload, including a main profile photo
• Biodata: PDF biodata you optionally upload
• Partner preferences: Age range, height, religion, education, income, location, dowry-free preference
• Family details: Parents' occupations, siblings, up to 5 family member contacts (only if you voluntarily add them)
• Kundli / horoscope: Birth time, birth city, Manglik status (optional)
• Chat messages: Messages you send to matches within the app
• Wedding planning data: Venue preferences, budget, shortlisted vendors, bookings via the W-Commerce module

Information collected automatically:

• Location: Approximate city/region (used to show nearby matches and active users in your city). Precise GPS is requested only for relevant features.
• Device info: Device model, OS version, unique device identifiers
• Usage data: Features used, screens visited, time spent, interactions (likes, requests, profile views) — collected via Firebase Analytics
• Push notification token: For sending match alerts and reminders via Firebase Cloud Messaging

How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account and profile
• Calculate and display compatibility match percentages
• Show your profile to other users based on mutual preference filters
• Enable real-time chat between matched users
• Generate AI-powered profile bios (text is processed server-side and not stored beyond generation)
• Power the W-Commerce wedding planning module — venue discovery, photographer browsing, AI planner "Mahi"
• Send push notifications for new matches, likes, messages, and reminders
• Display insights like "Active in your city" and "New today" counts
• Improve app features and fix bugs using aggregated analytics
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data for targeted advertising to third parties.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only in these limited circumstances:

• Other users: Your profile information and photos are visible to other registered MahiyaVe users in accordance with your privacy settings. Phone numbers are partially hidden by default and fully revealed only when you consent.
• Wedding vendors: If you book or enquire about a vendor through W-Commerce, relevant contact details are shared with that vendor to fulfil your booking.
• Service providers: Firebase (Google) processes data on our behalf — see Section 5.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users.
• Business transfer: In the event of a merger or acquisition, user data may be transferred. We will notify users before this occurs.

Firebase & Third-Party Services

MahiyaVe is built on Google Firebase. The following Firebase services process your data:

We also use Google Play Services for authentication and location. No other third-party advertising SDKs are embedded in the app.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, which is hosted in secure data centres. Firebase enforces industry-standard security including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.

We implement Firestore Security Rules to ensure users can only access their own data and the profiles of other users in accordance with app logic. Profile photos are stored with access controls and are not publicly indexable.

Data retention: We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, photos, and messages are permanently deleted within 30 days.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
• Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information directly from your profile settings in the app
• Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data from the app's Profile section, or by contacting us
• Data portability: Request an export of your data in a readable format
• Opt-out of notifications: Disable push notifications at any time from your device settings
• Withdraw consent: You may revoke location access from your device settings at any time
• Visibility control: Control which parts of your profile (phone number, family contacts) are visible to other users

Child Safety Standards

These are our published child safety standards. They set out who may use MahiyaVe, what we prohibit, how we enforce it, and how you can report a concern to us.

MahiyaVe is an adults-only platform

MahiyaVe is a matrimonial service. Nobody under 18 may create an account or use the app, in any capacity — including as a family member helping a relative search. Because the platform exists to help people marry, the minimum age follows Indian marriage law: 21 for men and 18 for women, under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

How we keep minors off the platform

Date of birth is required to create a profile, and the age requirement is enforced at three separate points so that it cannot be sidestepped:

• At entry — the date picker will not offer a date of birth below the minimum age.
• When saving — the profile is re-checked before it can be submitted, so a date entered by any other route is still rejected. This applies equally to profiles created on a member's behalf by our team.
• On our servers — the age requirement is enforced server-side, so a modified or out-of-date copy of the app cannot write an underage profile. A date of birth that cannot be read is refused rather than assumed valid.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under the minimum age, we deactivate it and delete the associated data. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

What is prohibited

We prohibit, without exception:

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and any image or video that sexualises a minor — real, edited, drawn or AI-generated.
• Grooming, solicitation, or any attempt to contact, meet or sexualise a person under 18.
• Child marriage, trafficking, or offering a minor for marriage — including by a parent, guardian or relative.
• Creating a profile for a minor, or misrepresenting a minor's age.
• Sharing, requesting or linking to any of the above, on or off the platform.

How to report a child safety concern

Reporting is built into the app and takes a few seconds. You do not need to be matched or chatting with someone to report them:

• In the app — open any profile or conversation, choose Report, and select “Child sexual abuse or exploitation” or “Underage user”. Both options are available from the discovery feed and from within a chat.
• By email — write to our child safety contact below. You can report anonymously, and you do not need a MahiyaVe account to do so.

Reports of this kind are prioritised above all other reports. If a child is in immediate danger, please also contact the police on 112, or Childline India on 1098.

How we respond

• We remove the content and permanently terminate the account.
• We block the account holder from re-registering, and review anyone they were in contact with.
• We preserve the relevant records for law enforcement rather than deleting them.
• We report to the appropriate authorities, including through India's National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in, and cooperate with any resulting investigation.

Legal compliance

We comply with applicable child safety law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy. We review these standards as our platform and the law change.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make significant changes, we will:

• Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
• Send a push notification to all active users
• Show an in-app prompt asking you to review and acknowledge the updated policy

Continued use of MahiyaVe after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
